Pre-Appalachian Trail

Blissful in perfect spring weather visiting Camden, Maine.

When I began making noises about walking the Appalachian Trail beginning in Maine, I discovered two of my favorite musical friends had moved here – and were within only a dozen miles from each other.

So it only made sense to make plans to visit Camden and its stunning ‘mountains meet ocean’ harbor for a few days before setting foot on some of the hardest walking on the trail (which, incidentally, I am working on as you read this, toiling straight up nearly a vertical mile to the summit of celebrated Mount Katahdin during a heat wave!)

But before a five mile ascent to Mile 0, I relaxed in this vacation destination, ate lobster, window-shopped the boutiques, played duets, climbed the local peak, paddled a SUP in the ocean and a kayak on a lake and reminisced non-stop. It was delicious!

Flying in on a prop plane over the famously jagged Maine coast.
Blissful and Kim Row playing together as if no time had passed.
The freshest seafood one can imagine on the Maine Coast..

Practice climb up Mount Battie, 1/10th the distance of Katahdin but a similar climb straight up rock with hands required.

  1. Hi Alsion,
I will be in Maine in early Sept with my sister and my brother-in-law. We will not do any vertical hikes.. Easy trails, lighthouse visits, a Maine lobster dinner on my birthday and strolling thru shops is our itinerary and more our speed.

    Lois
